Biological ties and affinities are no doubt very important. So one wonders why Jesus asks this question about his mother and siblings, when he is told they are outside asking to meet with him. Beyond biology, the ultimate connection we are share with Jesus is that of brothers and sisters; we are all children of one Father. If that is the case, we must learn from Jesus to widen the circle, beyond family ties, of those we consider one of us. We must keep in mind that, when destiny forgets to tie some people in blood relations, it corrects its mistake by making them friends.
