Advent is the period of preparation for the second coming of Jesus Christ as King and Judge of the universe (the coming in glory). There are four Sundays in advent, as Catholics, we are expected to use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas.
Things to Note During Advent
- No Gloria
We do not sing the Gloria during Advent because mankind was in darkness before the coming of Jesus Christ to the world. The great Gloria will be sang on Christmas as a sign that Jesus Christ the Light of the World has come. - Advent Wreath
Advent wreaths are circular, representing God’s infinite love
The green leaves represent the hope of eternal life brought by Jesus Christ.
The Four candles represent the four weeks of Advent and one candle is lit each Sunday
The colors of Advent candles are purple (representing penitence) or blue (hope) one pink candle (representing joy)
The Meaning of each candle: Hope–Peace–Joy–Love
In Advent, we celebrate the God who comes to us in HISTORY, in MYSTERY, and in MAJESTY
